In response to the waves of refugees arriving in the Italian island of Lampedusa, the Silent Book project was launched in 2012. Collections of worldless picture books that can be understood and enjoyed by children regardless of language were assembled in over twenty countries. South Dublin Libraries have a permanent collection of the Silent Books which will be on view in Clondalkin Library for the month of September. All welcome. There is no need to book.

As part of our 'Inspirational Speakers' series, we are delighted to welcome Peter Ryan to County Library, Tallaght. At the age of 21, Peter, a former GAA hurler, discovered that he had a rare genetic eye disorder which ultimately left him legally blind. However, following this setback, Peter began to rebuild his life and on a trip to UCD Paralympics Open Day in 2012 he proved that he was still a capable cyclist. Since then Peter has participated in the Paralympics in Rio in 2016. In this session Peter will talk candidly about his life experiences and how he overcame huge adversity to become a Paralympic athlete.
