Lucan LibraryLucan Library is a full-time library in the Superquinn Shopping Centre in Lucan. It is situated to the extreme left of the centre, near the Dunnes Stores entrance.

The library was opened to the public in November 2000. It is a bright modern building on the first floor of the Superquinn Shopping Centre and is accessible by lift. It has a large children's area and a seminar room which can be booked by local community groups.

In keeping with our service commitment to promote access to our services for all customers, access to the building is facilitated by automatic doors and movement within the building is facilitated by a lift.  Disabled parking is available very close by outside. The library provides a wide range of stock in a variety of formats including large print books, talking books on CD and online access to our download zone. The library counter has a loop hearing system and a computer is provided with assistive technologies. There is also an Affinity reader/CCTV Print Magnifier. The counter has a low-level section to facilitate children and wheelchair users. An accessible toilet is available. Some tactile signage is provided. The library serves the growing population of Lucan and surrounding areas; from the historic old village, once the residence of Patrick Sarsfield and James Gandon, to the newly planned urban district of Adamstown.

As well as providing access to material in an ever-growing range of formats, the library is also focal point in the community, hosting exhibitions, language classes, computer classes, reading groups, parent and toddler groups and a large number of other activities for adults and children

  From Wednesday 18th January at 3pm for four weeks Storytime will take the form of an educational programme called ‘Ready 2 Read’. This is to help children learn and understand more about books and reading in preparation for school and is aimed at 3-4 year olds along with their parent/guardian. It covers such subjects as vocabulary and narrative and will be presented in a fun, enjoyable way. Enquire at the desk in the library for more details of the programme. If you would like your child to participate please contact the library (014622403) to put her/his name down for the four sessions.
