Harry Potter Schools Quiz 

Wednesday 30th January, 10.00am - 12.00pm 

Calling all Harry Potter Fans!!!

Lucan, Clondalkin, Ballyroan and Tallaght Libraries are running a Harry Potter Quiz for schools. 
Teams of up to 6 pupils are invited to take part. Suitable for 4th - 6th class only.
Each team will need a good knowledge of all things Harry Potter. Schools can enter 1 or 2 teams. The top three teams from each library will go forward to the final.
The first round will take place at 10.00am on Wednesday 30th January in Lucan library and the Final on Harry Potter Book Night on Thursday 7th February at 11am.

Clondalkin Handcraft and Horticultural Show 2019 

 

Events will take place in Lucan, Clondalkin and Tallaght Libraries between February and May. All items made at the workshops will be entered in the Clondalkin Handcraft and Horticultural Show, 2019, taking place in Áras Chrónáin on 30th June. All children attending the workshops must be accompanied by an adult. All workshops suitable for 6 - 12 year-olds.

From Blue Monday to a Healthier You! 

Monday 21st January, 6.30pm - 7.30pm 

Blue Monday is (apparently!) the most depressing day on the year!! Nutritionist, Anna Ryan, will help you stick to your healthy New Year’s resolutions and have a healthy 2019. 

Suitable for adults, but if a parent wanted to bring an older child that they thought might benefit that is great!!

Society for Old Lucan 

Saturday 26th January, 10.00am - 12.00am 

Darren Tully of the Society for Old Lucan will lead a 90-minute local history and heritage tour. 

Meeting point is King John's bridge outside village, to walk from St Finian's onto Gandon Lodge, then Moat Lodge up the hill and finishing at Lucan Library at approximately 11.30am where refreshments will be served as well as an introduction to our Local Studies area.

Sensory-friendly Time at Lucan Library 

Friday 22nd February, 9.45am – 11.00am 

To make Lucan Library a more welcoming place for our patrons who may experience sensory difficulties, we will be reducing our lighting and minimising noise levels. The library will operate as normal, and all patrons are welcome to use the library as they usually would during this period.

Touch-Type Read Spell is a multi-sensory course that teaches touch-typing to help children with their reading and writing skills. It is particularly helpful for children with dyslexia and literacy issues. Minimum 8 years of age. Takes place each Wednesday, 6.00pm - 7.00pm.

Treat Yourself to Tai Chi

Give yourself a little love this Valentine's Day with a special Tai Chi session. Ross Cousens from the Master Ding Academy Dublin will facilitate this session of Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese tradition that is today practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.

Past Press Exhibition

From 14th January to 9th February

Presented by the National Library of Ireland. The Past from the Press explores issues such as news values, bias, subjectivity and propaganda and encourages students to ‘read between the lines’ of historic and contemporary newspapers.

Although the exhibition has broad appeal, it is of particular interest to students of History and English at both primary and secondary level and has been specially written with them in mind.

This walk is for people new to Lucan, be they from the Midlands of Ireland or West Africa. It's an opportunity to reveal the rich cultural heritage of Lucan to new residents. Horticulturist Aoife Munn will be giving a talk on getting your garden ready for the growing season. From balcony boxes to garden beds you don't need much space to get growing and enjoying your outdoor space. This interactive talk allows you to learn about gardening techniques, what will grow in window boxes and what to do in the garden now. You can also learn how to make your own pot and sow seeds to take home. There will be time at the end for any questions you have too.
