Camp Spark

This 4-day camp is designed to give children an introduction to and an understanding of the world of code and computational thinking.  The camp members will attend for four consecutive days. The camps will be facilitated by the Academy of Code.

Camp Ignite

Rediscovery Science Workshop

Thursday 8th November, 10.00am - 11.30am, & 11.30am - 1.00pm

Class visit only. Suitable for 3rd - 6th class.

Come and meet some of the most unusual and unique animals in the world! The National Reptile Zoo is dedicated to conservation of these amazing creatures and their habitats, and we want you to experience why we are so passionate about them too! Meet our snakes, spiders, lizards and tortoises up close and personal!

An exciting exploration of the universe presented by Carl O’Beirne, one of Ireland’s leading astronomers and astrophotographers.

A Fab Lab is a place where you can make (almost) anything using digital design and tools including Laser Cutters, Vinyl Cutters and 3D Printers. This workshop will introduce participants to the concepts of basic designing and making. Science Week – We have Lift Off!

Colourful Chemistry with Anyone4Science

Monday 12th November

Session 1: 10.00am - 11.00am

Session 2: 11.15am - 12.15am

Class visit only. Suitable for 1st - 6th class.

In this hands-on workshop, children learn about ink chromatography and experiment to see if they can analyse different inks and dyes used in markers, skittles and M&Ms.

Movie-Making with Create School

Wednesday 14th November, 10.00am - 2.00pm

Class visit only. Suitable for 6th class only.

In Movie Maker workshops, students collaborate to script, rehearse, shoot and edit their ideas to create a finished film. Working closely in groups with experienced tutors, participants learn skills and techniques that they can continue to develop after the workshop in order to make films with their own mobile technology.

The Science of Star Wars with Science Foundation Ireland

Thursday 15th November, 10.00am - 11.00am

Class visit only. Suitable for 1st - 6th class.

Join Jon Chase and learn about the wonders and magic of physics, from flying tea bags to roller coasters and jail breaks! Each child discovers the physics in the world around us through engaging and visual experiments. A number a children in the audience will be invited up to assist in some of the experiments in this interactive demonstration lecture.

The Science of Harry Potter with Science Foundation Ireland

Did you ever wonder if science has any explanation for the fantastic feats found in the Potter series? Join Jon Chase, co-author of The Science of Harry Potter, on a journey through some of the man-made versions of wizarding wonders.

Marvellous Mars with Deirdre Kelleghan

Wednesday 21st November, 11.30am - 12.30pm

Class visit only. Suitable for 4th - 6th class.

A workshop showcasing some of the most beautiful robot explorer images of Mars. Children will be challenged to draw and examine the surface of the red planet in highly textured detail. Learn about Mars, become familiar with and enjoy the planet, and compare Mars with our own Earth. We will also look at present and near future missions to Mars by NASA and the European Space Agency.
