Mobile Libraries
The Mobile Libraries visit more than 40 scheduled stops throughout the county, providing a service to local neighbourhoods, schools and communities unable to access a static branch library.
Dublin County Council’s Mobile Library Service started in September 1971, with two drivers and six library staff based at Copper Alley in Dublin's city centre. At that time the service covered the whole of County Dublin. In January 1994 Dublin County Council was divided into three new local authorities: Fingal, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and South Dublin County Councils. Four drivers and four mobile libraries were allocated to South Dublin County Council.
In 1996, the South Dublin Mobile Library Service moved to our Library Headquarters in Tallaght, where it is still based at present.
One of our 4 mobile libraries is wheelchair accessible and includes an additional pull-out lower step. If you would like that mobile library to visit your stop please get in touch.
The mobile libraries offer a Home Delivery Service with some of our branch libraries for people who cannot get to their library.
