Human Books prove Bestsellers at Ballyroan Library!

March 18, 2010

"Books" available for borrowing included a Gay Man, Priest, Elderly Person, Traveller, Muslim, Asylum Seeker, School Phobic, Lesbian, and lots more. Feedback from "Readers" who borrowed the books was very positive, saying that they found the evening very interesting, an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about others who they may never normally meet. All the "Books" found the experience rewarding and are enthusiastic about participating in future Human Libraries.

The Human Library originated in Denmark when the then 19-year old Ronni Abergel and some friends founded a group called Stop the Violence after a friend of theirs was brutally stabbed. This evolved into the Human Library and the event in Ballyroan Library was the second of its kind in Ireland. The first Irish Human Library took place in County Library Tallaght in October 2009 as part of South Dublin Innovates.
