The Local Studies collection includes books, local history files, newspapers, journals and periodicals, maps, directories, land records, folklore, videos, publications, archives and more.
There are a number of special collections of the works of local authors Katherine Tynan, Charles Lever, Austin Clarke, Patrick Pearse, Liam C Martin and others. An almost complete collection of the works of Katherine Tynan is held.
The collectionis housed in the main at the County Library in Tallaght, but there are smaller local collections at each of our branch libraries.

Books and other items in the Irish language are available for adults and children.
As well as books in English and Irish, we hold books for adults and children in 14 other World and European languages including, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian, Czech, Russian, Arabic, Malyalam, Hindu and Chinese.
Book Club Collection
We have a collection of almost 200 selected titles for adult book clubs to borrow for their meetings. Generally, about 12 - 15 copies of each title are available. This collection includes both fiction and non-fiction titles. Also, each November we hold our Reader’s Day; a wonderful day of conversations with eminent authors, hosted by Dermot Bolger.
Reader's Service Collections
In a busy world it can be hard to find time for book selection. We offer at least 15 collections customised by experts to offer reading ideas for adults and children. Collections such as Free Spirit, Get a Life and The Book Made Me Do It offer tempting and intriguing choices that invariably bring readers back for more.
